I answered the call

A few weeks ago I was asked by someone what do I get out of doing this? I, admittedly, was taken aback by this question momentarily.
But I already knew the answer. As it is within me. Since I was young I've always wanted to help. Even if it was just to listen. I would give up so much free time so I could listen, offer advice, help out.I would take on too much work. All because I wanted to help.
I grew up in a family of carers, health cares and nurses. So this desire to help people is hardwired into who I am. It's just my form of care is different to those of my family but is just as loving, caring and powerful.
What I get out of it, is knowing that if I've only helped one person, then I've changed the world. Their world. Because we don't change the world but helping everyone all at once. We change the world by helping one person at a time.
So, whether I've helped them with a solution to a problem, with their health and well-being, passed on different techniques, or just been there for them. The result is the same. I've helped someone in need.
Yes, like everyone else I have bill's to pay, so this is how I pay mine. By doing a job I freaking love, a job I'm passionate about. A job that makes me feel like I have a purpose, a reason to bounce out of bed other than paying bill's.
If you do a job that you love it never really feels like work, because its not just a job. It's a vocation it's a passion, it's a calling. It might not seem like a lot, but to me that is everything.

And THAT is what I get out of this.
